BoD, General Assembly and visit, 15-17 October 2022, Hungary

A very successful set of meetings were held in Budapest, Hungary in October 2022, including a Board meeting of Council members, a General Assembly (GA) and a visit to the Paks nuclear power plant and University of Dunaujvaros. Organised and hosted by Professor Peter Trampus and with kind support of the University of Dunaujvaros, the events were well-attended and extremely worthwhile for Academia members, who were able to attend the GA either in person or online.

During the GA there were scientific presentations by two newly approved members of the Academia:

Anish Poudel, from MxV Rail, USA, presented: 'Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) Characterization Using Electro-Magnetic Field Imaging (EMFI) Technology'
David Moore, of Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, USA, who spoke on: 'Using NDE Diagnostics to Monitor the Deformation of an Octet Truss Lattice under Constant Compression Loading'
Vladimir Syasko, from RSNTTD: 'NDE 4.0: Intelligent measuring transducers for advanced cyber-physical systems of smart factories. Structure, standardization and metrological support'

Telmo G. Santos, NOVA University Lisbon, Portugal: 'The essence of NDT: the intelligent use of physical phenomena to save lives'

Scientific presentations were also made by the following Full Members of the Academia:

Marc Kreutzbruck, University of Stuttgart, Germany: 'Modern Robotic NDT: Flexible Dual Robotic NDT System for the Inspection of Large Components'

Serge Dos Santos, INSA Centre Val de Loire, France and Yoshikazu Ohara, Tohoku University, Japan: 'Signal and Image Processing 4.0 for Nonlinear NDT'

A new discipline: NDT integrity engineering
Recommendation of the Academia NDT International (approved on Oct 12th, 2018, Brescia)
The Academia NDT International would like to draw your attention to the emergence of the NDT Integrity Engineering discipline, which serves to safeguard the integrity of materials and structures through the use of advanced and appropriate NDT practices. The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) profession belongs to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), which is a family of disciplines collecting the most important areas in emerging technologies. It is necessary for NDT to join other professions that are also aiming to adjust their educational programmes to the needs of those requiring advanced knowledge, skills and the correct disposition.
NDT Integrity Engineering is a discipline to develop non-destructive testing and evaluation involving materials science, fracture mechanics, and other sciences that would guarantee and enhance the reliability and safety by ensuring integrity of structures in everyday life.
